Reminder to Vaccinate Dogs Against Canine Distemper

Cook County Animal Control has notified the Hinsdale Police Department of an outbreak of canine distemper in area raccoons, which is transmissible to domesticated dogs if they have not been appropriately vaccinated. Vaccines are highly effective against the transmission of the disease. If contracted, canine distemper is incurable and can even be fatal. Therefore, residents are strongly encouraged to be certain that their dogs' vaccinations are up to date. The disease is NOT transmissible to humans.

Any resident who may witness a raccoon behaving strangely is encouraged to contact the Hinsdale Police Department non-emergency line at 630-789-7070.
