The Community Development Department is committed to carrying out a full range of residential and commercial services. We recognize the importance of understanding the community's core values, priorities and concerns in order to promote its desired future. We work closely with residents, developers, businesses, engineers and architects throughout all phases of development. The Community Development Department is also your liaison to the Zoning Board of Appeals, Plan Commission and Historic Preservation Commission.

The National Arbor Day Foundation has named the Village of Hinsdale a "TREE CITY USA." This designation is a confirmation of the Village of Hinsdale's commitment to preserving its trees, The National Arbor Day Foundation recognizes those communities that effectively manage their public tree resources. In order to be named a TREE CITY USA, each community must meet four standards that provide structure for a community forestry program, require that the program demonstrate success based on the state forester's judgment, and provide for an awareness and appreciation of trees among the residents of the community.
