The Hinsdale Village Board stands with elected officials from all levels of government in urging Sterigenics to cease operations until after proper safeguards are put in place, and after ambient air quality testing is performed to ensure the health and safety of area residents.  The following is a detailed list of the communications that have occurred between the Village and Sterigenics and leaders at the federal, state and local level.

July 26, 2019 - On July 24th, 2019, Judge Paul Fullerton honored the request of Burr Ridge, Darien, Hinsdale and Willowbrook communities to have input and comment on the Consent Order for consideration by the court.  This Consent Order was issued by the Illinois Attorney General and the DuPage County States Attorney on July 16, 2019.  Each of these municipalities welcome e-mails from residents with their input. July 25, 2019 - DuPage County Circuit Court Judge Fullerton issued a favorable ruling for the Village of Hinsdale when he granted the Village of Hinsdale’s Motion to Intervene to become party to the lawsuit the Illinois Attorney General filed against Sterigenics in October 2018.

July 16, 2019 - Illinois EPA has scheduled a formal public meeting to accept oral comments on a draft construction permit to place significant new controls on emissions at the Sterigenics US, LLC facility, located at 7775 Quincy Street in Willowbrook. May 24, 2019 - Illinois House Republican Leader Jim Durkin (R-Western Springs) and State Representative Deanne Mazzochi (R-Elmhurst) passed the Matt Haller Act out of the House Chamber today that will enact new restrictions on ethylene oxide emissions and facilities that use the chemical in production.  Click here to view.
May 22, 2019 - The Village of Hinsdale filed a witness slip to support SB 1852.  SB 1852 requires an ethylene oxide facility to, in the event of a leak, issue a notice to all affected property owners and units of local government within 2,500 feet of the leak site. In a situation such as the Sterigenics Facility in Willowbrook, this bill would require that facility to provide notice of an ethylene oxide leak to Willowbrook.

May 9, 2019 - Press Release: Municipal Leaders Urge State & County Not to Settle with Sterigenics. The Village of Hinsdale fully supports this press release and jointly signed a letter to Illinois Attorney General and DuPage County Attorney General.

February 19, 2019 - At the Village Board of Trustees meeting on February 19, 2019 the Board approved a resolution advocating for the closure of the Sterigenics Willowbrook Facility and will file a Motion to Intervene in the Sterigenics motion.
February 19, 2019 - A motion hearing was held and continued to 2/20/2019.
February 18, 2019 - Sterigenics files an injunction against the IEPA. 
February 15, 2019 - Gov. Pritzker orders shut down of Sterigenics.
February 15, 2019 - Willowbrook Mayor says IEPA to shut down Sterigenics.
February 15, 2019 - Sterigenics Willowbrook has been shut-down by the EPA until further notice.  
February 15, 2019 - Willowbrook has issued a press release regarding new air sampling results that warrant immediate emergency action to shut down Sterigenics.
February 13, 2019 - Trustee Stifflear sends letters to Illinois Representative Mazzochi and Illinois State Senator Glowiak copying United States Senator Duckworth, State Senator Durbin, United States Representative Casten, United States Representative Quigley, Governor Pritzker, Attorney General Raoul,  DuPage County Board Chairman Cronin, and DuPage County State’s Attorney Berlin.
February 8, 2019 - Trustee Stifflear, behind U. S. Representative Lipinski and Representative Durkin, joined in asking the Environmental Protection Agency to immediately force Sterigenics in Willowbrook to stop operating due to concerns about emissions of a cancer-causing chemical.

October 30, 2018 - Attorney General Madigan and State's Attorney Berlin release a press release stating they have filed a lawsuit against Sterigenics over toxic air pollution violations.

October 29, 2018 - Village Manager, Kathleen A. Gargano sends a letter to the Environmental Protection Agency stating President Cauley has assigned the Village's Chair of the Zoning and Public Safety Committee, Luke Stifflear, to take the lead on the Village's efforts regarding Sterigenics.

October 23, 2018 - Village of Hinsdale officials participate in meeting hosted by Village of Western Springs with other local leaders at the state and local level and representatives from Stop Sterigenics. 
October 10, 2018 - ABC 7 publishes the article "Illinois EPA orders Sterigenics to cease operations in Willowbrook until safety review complete"
September 25, 2018 - U.S. Senators Tammy Duckworth, Dick Durbin and Representative Bill Foster published a press release asking for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Willowbrook-based Sterigenics to immediately conduct testing for local air quality for emissions of ethylene oxide.
August 29, 2018 - Willowbrook assembled a panel of representatives from various applicable federal and state agencies and held a public forum meeting to present the facts and allow the community to ask questions.  Congressman Bill Foster, Senator Curran, and Representative Durkin were also in attendance.   The EPA advised that there is no imminent threat to public health from short-term exposure to EtO, but the long-term effects are largely unknown.
August 22, 2018 - The EPA advised the Village of Willowbrook that the EPA released a report (on that day) from the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR, which is a subsidiary of the CDC) on a business, Sterigenics International Inc., located within our corporate business park that emits a chemical, ethylene oxide (EtO) Village receives information regarding report.
