Village of Hinsdale Engineering Project Updates

During construction, residents are encouraged to take alternate streets as much as possible.  Construction zones may be marked for "Local Traffic Only".  This applies to the residents living in the construction zone so that they may get to and from their homes.  All other traffic should use the designated detour routes.  Vehicles traveling through construction zones do so at their own risk and should expect to experience temporary delays, detours, and degraded pavement conditions.  For the safety and convenience of everyone in the construction zones, please drive slowly and carefully through these areas.

Public utility companies may be conducting construction in Hinsdale to relocate, maintain, or repair their public utilities.  Each public utility company will notify residents of their work and their work's impact on the area.

Hinsdale staff will continue to notify residents of the impacts of the Village's construction activities on the streets under construction through e-mailings or notices placed on front doors. If you have not provided an email to the Village to receive notifications, please contact adiaz@villageofhinsdale.org

2020 CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS
There are three major construction projects scheduled for 2020.  These are the 2020 Infrastructure Project, the 2020 Maintenance Project and the E. Chicago Drainage Corridor Project.
  • The 2020 Infrastructure Project includes water main replacement on Chicago Avenue from Stough Street east to the water plant on Symonds Drive.  Chicago Avenue from IL Route 83 to Garfield will be resurfaced after the water main construction.
  • The 2020 Maintenance Project includes resurfacing of various streets and parking lots throughout Hinsdale.
  • The E. Chicago Drainage Corridor project includes construction of storm sewers on S. Elm and Orchard Streets, and through the Highland Park to an underground detention system under the Highland Station parking lot.  Parking for the Highland Station will be temporarily relocated to Veeck Park during this construction.
  • Construction is expected to begin in the spring of 2020.

OTHER ENGINEERING ACTIVITIES IN THE AREA
The Illinois Tollway planned improvements to the Tristate Tollway (I-294) have begun.  Construction on the Tollway road itself is not anticipated until 2021 at the earliest.  First, the Tollway must lengthen the BNSF Bridge over the Tollway.  The bridge project began in 2019 and will have a temporary impact on Pierce and Veeck Parks.  You can read a general overview of the Tollway road improvement project here.  For any questions about the BNSF Bridge project or the Tollway road project, please contact the Tollway's representative, Chloe Daniels, at 630-335-4566 or cdaniels@omegaassociates.com.

Please note: All schedules are weather and funding dependent and are subject to change.
