Department Profile

The Department of Public Services is comprised of the following operating divisions:


Public Works
Public Works is staffed by 15 full-time employees and one part-time employee. Day to day activities include street repair, tree preservation, leaf removal, snow & ice control, maintenance of traffic signs, street & sidewalk sweeping, and maintenance of Village equipment and rolling stock.
Engineering
Engineering is responsible for the scheduling, design, and construction of public improvements, as well as the inspection of improvements to private property. Activities include surveying work, drafting, plan design and review, and inspections. The Engineering Department is staffed by three full-time employees and supplemented by consulting firms working under the direction of the Village Engineer.
Building Maintenance
Building Maintenance consists of two full-time employees who are responsible for the maintenance, upkeep, repair, and capital improvements to Village-owned buildings. The department is also responsible for the supervision of contractual repair and maintenance work that may occur. The facilities owned and maintained include the Memorial Building, Police/Fire Building, Water Plant, Public Works Garage, KLM Lodge, Community Swimming Pool, Brush Hill and Highlands train stations, and parks buildings.
