On September 1,2006 at 6:53AM the Hinsdale Police Department received a 911 call from an employee from metra stating that some one just threw a fire-cracker in the garbage of the main depot, shortly after 911 call, the fire alarm for the main depot activated. Upon arrival of the officers a pipe bomb device was located in the garbage can. No extensive damage was sustained, nor were there any injuries.

Other agencies along the metra route directly to the east and west of Hinsdale were notified to check their depots.

A suspect is being held by the metra police at Union Station. The suspected was seen putting an item in the garbage can in question, by a witness at the scene. The suspect then got on the 6:56 or 7:04 train leading to Chicago. At this time we have officers from the Hinsdale Police Department en-route to Chicago to interview the suspect: a male black approx 20 years of age, tall and skinny.

At this time we do not have any reason to believe this was a terrorist act, nor do we have any reason for this act.

A sweep of the area is being conducted by the Dupage County Bomb squad, along with the removal of the detonated pipe bomb.

At this time it is a joint investigation with the Dupage County Bomb Squad and the ATF. Contact person for ATF is Thomas J. Ahem. # # #
