Over the past several weeks, Village Officials have been asked many times as to how best honor the memories of the civilians, police officers, and firefighters who gave their lives on September 11, 2001. On this the 5th anniversary of this tragedy, there are many public and formal ceremonies throughout the State of Illinois scheduled to honor the fallen.

At this evenings Village Board Meeting, the Hinsdale Village Board agreed with a suggestion that was passed on to Fire Chief Patrick J. Kenny that on Monday, September 11, 2006, an American flag should be displayed outside very home, apartment, office, and store in the Village of Hinsdale on this the fifth anniversary of this country’s worst tragedy. This display would allow all residents of Hinsdale to actively participate in the tribute to the families, friends, and loved ones who lost family members five years ago.

To that end, the flags that were posted throughout the Village of Hinsdale for the Labor Day holiday will remain through Monday, September 11, 2006.
