The Village of Hinsdale Fire Department is proud to
announce we are now accepting open enrollment for our inaugural
Citizens Fire Academy. The Citizens Fire Academy is a public education
based program that focuses on fire and life safety, fire prevention,
and first aid that offers attendees a once in a lifetime opportunity
for anyone who wants to observe first-hand, what it takes to be
a firefighter. While this Academy exposes attendees to the fire
service, it is not a training academy that trains and certifies
attendees for careers in the fire service.
Starting on September 21st, the Citizens Fire Academy
will meet every Thursday at the Village of Hinsdale Fire Station
from 7 pm to approximately 10 pm. The Academy will run through December
14th. Enrollment is open to anyone 18 years of age and
older.
In addition to learning of the celebrated history of the Hinsdale Fire Department, participants will participate in fire suppression and rescue demonstrations and get hands-on experience with a variety of firefighting and rescue equipment and training. Participants will also learn about the Village's emergency ambulance and paramedic services and fire and life safety education topics. Training in cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is also provided.
Interested parties can obtain applications for registration at the Village of Hinsdale Fire Department, located at 121 Symonds Drive, Hinsdale, Illinois 60521. Minimum class size is set a 7 and maximum is 20. There is no charge for this class.
