Fall
and fall leaf season will be here soon, bringing with
it a new leaf pick-up program here in Hinsdale. This new
program will keep our streets cleaner and safer; it will
also help to keep leaves out of Flagg Creek Water Reclamation
District's sewers and storm drains. The most important
thing to remember is that leaves may no longer be
placed in the street for removal!
The new leave pick-up program has several
options:
Update ~ November
19, 2007 ~ Update
The leaf pick up program with Allied Waste has been extended
to December 6, 2007. This includes the Senior Program.
- Free weekly removal from October 1st thru November
30th of all bagged or containered leaves by Allied Waste
at the time of your regular trash picku-up. Bags and/or
containers may not exceed 34 gallons or 60 pounds. Bags
must be paper. PLEASE NOTE:
This free pick up is for leaves ONLY. No other yard
waste will be picked up for free.
- If you choose not to bag, you can hire Fuller's Home
Services to remove leaves that you or your lawn service
have raked to the parkway (not to the street).
You will be responsible for contacting Fuller's and
scheduling each picku-up. Leaves should be removed within
3 days of there placement on the parkway.
- If you are a senior citizen, you may apply at Village
Hall for assistance in having leaves removed from your
parkway.
- You may also choose to keep your leaves on your property
to be composted for use as mulch. Our Village Arborist
and Horticulturalist highly recommend the use of compost
for keeping plants and trees healthy.
Remember, leaves should never be placed in the street.
Homeowners who place leaves in the street will be subject
to a fee of $75 and up after their first offense.
With everyone's cooperation and a doubling of our usual
fall street-sweeping, we expect to have a cleaner, safer
fall leaf season.
