The
Katherine Legge Memorial Park and Lodge (Legge pronounced
"leg") are located on 52 beautiful acres of woodland,
a perfect setting for any occasion. The land and facilities
were donated to the Village of Hinsdale in 1973.
Alexander Legge was President of International Harvester.
He and his wife, Katherine, originally developed the
property as a weekend escape. Their ultimate plan
included the construction of a home on the site. Upon
the death of Katherine in 1924, Alexander established
KLM as a retreat devoted to rest, recreation and welfare
for women employed at International Harvester.
The Katherine Legge Memorial Lodge was designed by
architect, R. Harold Zook and built in 1927. The first
floor of this English-style building provides a spacious
living room with fireplace, dining room, kitchen,
restrooms and office. The second floor is a large
ballroom with fireplace which was used for recreational
activities.
Today, the Lodge and grounds are available for rental
to accommodate private and corporate events such as
weddings and receptions, meetings, parties, banquets,
picnics, etc.

The Lodge
The
Living room of the Lodge is decorated with beautifully
restored furniture (sofas, chairs, tables, etc.),
fireplace, portable bar (available for first floor
and ballroom) and upright piano (available first
floor only). The large dining room seats up to 120
people for a sit-down dinner (less seating for buffet
style). The versatile ballroom with fireplace may
be used for wedding ceremonies, meetings and also
as seating for dinner and will allow an additional
100 person capacity. The building capacity is 220
persons.
Lodge rental includes use of 72 inch round dining
tables, 8 foot and 6 foot banquet tables, 3 foot
card tables, and chairs*. Dinnerware, flatware,
water goblets, bar glassware and table linens are
not provided. The full service kitchen is available
for caterer use.
The grounds immediately surrounding the Lodge are
designated for use by Lodge clients only and make
a perfect setting for an outdoor ceremony, reception
or picnic. Tents may be rented and used as additional
seating space.
*Note:
All equipment provided at the KLM Lodge is for indoor
use only.
