The Village of Hinsdale is seeking a technical and collaborative individual with strong interpersonal skills for the position of Part-Time Fire Inspector in the Fire Department.

About the Village of Hinsdale

Located 20 miles west of Chicago, Hinsdale is a historic, beautiful community with a charming downtown that is listed on the National List of Historic Places. The Village consists of tree-lined streets, architecturally distinct homes and nationally recognized schools. Hinsdale is a full-service community with a $42 million total budget and 92 full-time employees in the following departments: Administration/Finance, Police, Fire, Public Services & Engineering, Community Development and Parks & Recreation.

About the Fire Department

The Department works out of one (1) station and provides fire protection and emergency medical services for the Village. The Department is staffed with a Chief, Assistant Chief, three (3) Captains, three (3) Lieutenants, fifteen (15) Firefighter/Paramedics and one part-time Secretary.

General Responsibilities:

Position coordinates and performs fire and life safety inspections in all business, commercial, medical and educational buildings, performs occupancy inspections and final acceptance tests for fire prevention systems and participates in the Village's plan review process. Position will average approximately 14 hours per week.

Position Requirements:

Successful candidate will have a comprehensive knowledge of fire prevention. Essential position requirements also include strong computer, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

Five (5) years relevant experience required. Valid Illinois Driver's License required. State Certified Fire Prevention Officer I and State Certified School Inspector preferred.

Starting Salary Range:

Starting Salary is $26/hour. There are no benefits associated with the position.

Candidate should be prepared to take a physical evaluation, including a drug and alcohol screening and undergo a thorough background investigation. Crossing Guard

The Village of Hinsdale is accepting applications for school Crossing Guards. Work approximately 185 days per year, 4 crossings per day. Salary is $9.23/crossing. School holidays off. The selection process for this position will include a background check and oral interview.
