Police Department Program Information
Goal To maintain the peace and to protect life and property through a balanced and cooperative joint Police - Community effort assuring a high level of safety, security and public order.
Administration To plan, direct, evaluate, and coordinate the Police Department to deliver effective police service to the community. To provide sufficient resources for the Fire and Police Commissioners to perform their statutory duties.
Pro-Active Patrol To provide for the prevention of violations of the law as well as the apprehension of those who have violated the law, while also providing efficient response to citizens' requests for police services.
Traffic To maintain vehicle and pedestrian safety through engineering, education, enforcement and maintenance. To provide for maximum utilization of available parking spaces for shoppers and merchants. To provide supervision for grade school children crossing major intersections while going to and from school.
Investigations To provide for 24-hour telephone and walk-in service to handle citizens' requests for service. To provide timely information and data for use by department members and citizens. To use civilian personnel to relieve sworn personnel to do duties that require a high level of training and expertise.
Reimbursed Costs -- School Resource Officer To establish and maintain a healthy relationship between the Police Department and the administration, faculty, students, parents, and school organizations of Hinsdale Central high school so as to provide a direct line of communication and resource for dealing with problems of mutual concern. To provide an increased level of safety for both students and staff in order to preserve the integrity of the educational environment. To be available as a resource to help resolve problems in which the officer's expertise may be helpful. To assist other law enforcement officers with outside investigations concerning students attending Hinsdale Central high school. To assist in providing educational programs concerning issues related to law and law enforcement. Upon request, to provide security at extracurricular activities.
