Public Library |
The Hinsdale Public
Library is located at 20 E. Maple Street in the west wing of the Memorial
Building. The facility provides the community with a full-service library of approximately
30,000 square feet. Contact the Library at 630-986-1976 or FAX 630-986-9720 or

Services include wireless Internet throughout the
library and the south patio; 22 public computers and five online catalogs; two
self-checkout stations; a website that provides library news and helpful resources;
quarterly newsletter and monthly enewsletter; reference and readers advisory assistance
provided online, in-person and over the phone; homework help; reserves and inter-library
loan service; drive-up book drop open 24 hours; homebound delivery; voter registration;
TDD for the hearing impaired (630-986-1982); group study and meeting rooms; and
photocopiers. The library also offers a full range of story times; reading
clubs and other programs for children, teens and adults; monthly book discussions;
and a comfortable Quiet Room.
Materials available at the library include
books (109,500 volumes), magazines, and newspapers (343 subscriptions); audiobooks
(3,536); movies (4,110); music CDs (3,679); CD ROMS (552); and kits (243).
The library is a member of the Metropolitan Library System (MLS). Hinsdale
and other MLS libraries share a computer system which provides for the circulation
of materials and gives each library access to the holdings of all participating
libraries. MLS's interlibrary loan service also enables library users to draw
upon materials available throughout the nation.
There is an active Friends
of the Library group which provides supplementary financial support to the
library. Funds come from annual membership dues and semiannual book sales.
The library is also supported by the Hinsdale Public Library Foundation
through their fundraising initiatives and programs, including Astronomy Nights,
Film Society and Speaker Series. The Library Director heads a staff of
50 full- and part-time employees, including 11 professional librarians.

Sunday; Memorial Day (Sunday and Monday); Independence Day; Labor Day (Sunday
and Monday); the Wednesday before Thanksgiving at 5:00 p.m.; Thanksgiving Day;
Christmas Eve (all day); Christmas Day; New Year's Eve (after 1:00 PM). Whenever
Christmas Day and New Year's Day fall on a Sunday, the library will also close
the following Monday |
