Executive Summary
The Hinsdale Bicycle Plan proposes a network
of more than twenty-five miles of bike routes, bike lanes,
and shared use paths to greatly increase the amount of bicycle
facilities within the Village of Hinsdale. Additionally,
recommendations for improved regulatory signs, traffic control
devices, and bicycle parking are provided to present a comprehensive
strategy for enhancing the environment for bicyclists.
This plan proposes a bicycle network that
connects residents to destinations within Hinsdale as well
as points beyond the Village limits. The network is not
only for recreation; it provides residents and visitors
with a transportation option that does not require a car,
helps to reduce automobile congestion, and increases opportunities
for physical activity. These qualities all contribute to
enhancing the quality of life for residents of Hinsdale.
Tremendous community support and guidance
was provided throughout the planning process by the Bicycle
Task Force in monthly meetings and many other interested
residents who participated in the bicycle planning workshop
on April 21, 2007.
